Chalk Prevails as Division I Reaches the Elite Eight
Share:

After the dust settled over the weekend, chalk prevailed in the NCAA Division I Championships. All the top seeds advanced to the quarterfinals in the men’s and women’s brackets.

The teams will shift from their home courts to the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill., to play for the national title.

The Division I men’s quarterfinal matches will be played Thursday, the semifinals on Saturday and the championship match on Sunday.

The Division I women’s quarterfinal matches will be played Friday, the semifinals on Saturday and the championship match on Sunday.

No Pac-12 teams remain in either the men’s or women’s draws, but both defending champions still have a chance to go back-to-back (Florida men, Texas women).

On the men’s side, the SEC has three teams represented, the Big 12 and Big Ten both have two and the ACC has one. The action is highlighted by another rivalry showdown between Ohio State and Michigan. The Wolverines beat the Buckeyes 4-2 in the Big Ten tournament final earlier this month to take a 2-1 lead in the season series.

On the women’s side, the ACC has four teams represented, the Big 12 has two teams and the SEC and West Coast Conference each have one. No. 2 Oklahoma has reached the Elite Eight for the first time in program history. OU’s opponent, Texas A&M, is making its second appearance in program history and first since 2013, when the Aggies reached the NCAA final with current Texas coach Howard Joffe leading the program.
