The Left Stuff: Ryan Thacher's Mission Includes Tennis and School

Ryan Thacher is a tennis player now. Although he excelled at baseball, football and soccer, the sixteen-year-old Southern Californian is devoting his athletic talents these days to kick serves and backhand volleys, not pass routes and pitch counts.

But he's not finished making difficult choices. His next will be selecting a college with the right mix of classroom and athletic excellence.

"I'm looking to go to a school with a strong tennis team and really strong academics," says the six-foot three-inch sophomore at Harvard-Westlake prep school. "It's really important to me."
