Keegan Smith was considering taking visits to North Carolina, Washington, Arizona State, Michigan and the University of San Diego.
But the blue-chip recruit never made the travel plans. He kept his suitcase in the closet and committed to
UCLA.
"It was kind of at the top of my list the whole time of recruiting. UCLA was my No. 1 choice," the San Diego resident said. "I thought about waiting to make the decision, but it seemed like the best option to just commit as soon as I could."
Although he didn't feel any peer pressure, Smith is happy to be in the same UCLA recruiting class as close friends Bryce Pereira and Connor Hance.
"They are both from So Cal, so that is going to be awesome. Spending time with them on the team will be fun," Smith said. "I like the atmosphere, and that is another reason I picked UCLA. The sports are so good. I am excited to go to football games and basketball games. The ultimate goal is to become a professional tennis player for me, so I think it's really exciting to see how much my game jumps up when I go to UCLA."
Smith has played tennis nearly his entire life. His father played tennis at Tulane, and the Smith children adopted a love for the sport.
