College Commitment
Countdown: Huskies Pick Up McMorrow
by Marc Lucero, 14 October 2008
Kyle McMorrow knew what he was looking for. He knew what he wanted out of a college tennis program and when he saw it he did not need to see anything else. Today the Blue Chip recruit from Thousand Oaks, Calif. discusses his commitment to the University of Washington.
"The other colleges I was mainly considering were
Boise State,
Michigan, and
Pepperdine. The only school I took an unofficial visit to was Washington," McMorrow said.
McMorrow is currently ranked fourth in September's USTA combined 18s rankings and eighth on the TennisRecruiting.Net ranking list.
He must have known that he was headed for a big year. He started off hot in Arizona at the Winter National Championships where he followed up a Round of 16 loss to future Pac-10 opponent Bradley Klahn with five straights wins to earn the consolation title.
Since then, highlights include singles titles at a National Open in February and the Ojai Championships in April - and doubles titles at the Easter Bowl in March, Southern California Sectionals in June, and a National Open in June. He is currently coming off of a Round of 16 singles finish at the USTA 18s National Championships at Kalamazoo and a quarterfinal doubles finish.
