When twins pick up racquets, the Bryan brothers are the obvious comparison and role models. But for blue chip recruit Eliot Spizzirri and his twin brother Nicholas, a desire for family peace sent them in different directions.

“We both played squash, tennis and golf as kids, and we used to compete all the time in every sport and it never ended well,” Eliot Spizzirri recalled. “One of us was usually crying at the end of it, or punching the other and fighting. So my dad wanted us to pick our own pathways and stick with the sports we loved most, and luckily enough, for me that was tennis and for him that was squash. Since about [age] 9, we committed to our own sports and have been fortunate enough to do pretty well in both.”
Pretty well is an understatement, with Eliot Spizzirri currently ranked 32 in the world in the ITF Junior Circuit rankings and a quarterfinalist this week at the Kalamazoo 18s Nationals, while Nicholas is representing the United States this month in the World Junior Squash Championships in Malaysia.
“He’s in Malaysia right now for the world junior championships and it’s really an exciting time for him,” Spizzirri said. “He lost in the Round of 16, but he did pretty well, so we were really happy for him. It’s really cool to have a brother who is trying to do the same thing in another sport. We really push each other and it’s pretty amazing.”
