GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Luca Sevim had lost in the second round of the USTA Boys 14s Level 2 in 2023, so reaching the final in his second trip to Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness was a big step forward for the 14-year-old from Chicago.

Looking destined to settle for a second place finish when falling behind top seed Mason Vaughan 6-1, 2-0 in Monday's final, Sevim instead dug in, forcing a match tiebreaker that would decide the championship. The No. 2 seed demonstrated his mastery in that pressure-packed scenario, taking a 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 decision to earn his fourth win via a match tiebreaker in the three-day tournament.
"I did have a lot of experience, I knew what to do and I wasn't nervous," said Sevim, a five-star recruit in the Class of 2028. "So that did help. I won my first match 11-9 and then another 10-8 yesterday."
