Prince Hot 100 List - September '14
Share:

As students return to school and busy fall schedules, young tennis players have many demands on their time. Several, however, don't let that stop them from carrying their summer success into fall. We recognize some of these performances in this month's Prince Hot 100 Lists.

The Prince Hot 100 lists are published each month, and the September Hot 100 lists feature the one hundred boys and girls who most improved their rankings during the month of August. You can find out more about the Prince Hot 100 - and how the lists are calculated - by reading here.

The latest lists, published last week, are available here:

Camryn Moortgat (Dallas, Texas)

Four-star freshman Camryn Moortgat grew up playing several competitive and challenging sports, including gymnastics, club soccer, and snow skiing.

Moortgat, who lived in Boise, Idaho, until she was 15, is part of a very athletic family, and her parents, Jim and Jennifer Moortgat, were a big influence. Her father is her coach and a former Boise State University coach, and her mother was formerly the women's tennis coach at the University of Illinois.

Camryn Moortgat chose to focus exclusively on tennis when she hit middle school. "I have always grown up with tennis around me, but it didn't become my passion until I was around 11 years old," she said. "When I really decided that tennis was what I wanted to do, I was in sixth grade and I begged my parents to let me be homeschooled so I would have more time to play."

The Moortgat family is proud of the influence they have had in their children's athletic lives. "We introduced our kids to a variety of sports when they were little, allowing them to find what they loved," they said. "We feel fortunate that both our children chose tennis as the sport they wanted to focus on, and it has become a big part of our family's lives."

The Moortgats recently moved to the tennis-loving state of Texas, which allowed Camryn Moortgat to grow further as a player. "Having moved to Texas, I have been able to increase my playing and training time and the level and number of tournaments," she said.

Moortgat and her father are working on strengthening her patterns. "I have a good understanding of the way I want to play, being an all court player," she said. "I know I can count on my backhand and I am working to improve executing my patterns."

Moortgat found success almost immediately in Texas. In her first three tournaments, she beat the number one seeds. "I started to believe that I could hang with the competition in Texas, which really helped me believe in myself," she said.

She continued her good performance into last month, winning both the Metropolis Junior Championship and the Arlington Tennis Championship. She collected a 10-1 record for August.

Moortgat's recent surge in confidence has her thinking about college tennis. "My dream school is Stanford. I take pride in my grades, so I'm definitely looking for a school that offers good academics," she said. "I would like a tennis team that has a lot of spirit, where the girls support each other."
