Fall Signing Week '14: Robert Seby to Become a Bronco

When the time came to make a decision on playing college tennis, Robert Seby had no doubt that Santa Clara University was the place. It offered the right combination for this teen to want to sign up to play in 2015.

The Oro Valley, Arizona, high school senior is a Blue Chip recruit, currently at No. 22 in the Athletic DNA National Rankings. His position recently received a boost after he made the singles and doubles finals at the USTA National Selection Tournament in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Seby is not new to the top of the rankings. He has been showing his skills on the national junior circuit since he played 10 and under "Little Mo" tournaments.

The highlight of Robert Seby's junior tennis career came more recently.

"My most memorable tournament was the U.S. Open National Playoffs in the Southwest region," he said without hesitation.

"The reasons why were because I was able to compete and win against much more experienced players, and I was able to become the youngest player to win the regional division of the U.S. Open National Playoffs at age sixteen."

Mark Hardy has coached Robert Seby for more than four years and did his best to offer guidance on the college planning process.

"I did not make any absolute program decisions for him - but tried to set some guidelines for him to look for in choosing," said Hardy.

"The first option was to make sure there were at least three players at his level or above for his first two years," he continued. "The second was to find a coach he could trust to be truthful and with the knowledge that would allow him to progress as far as possible. He is an exceptionally bright young man and I figure he had the tools to make the right decision."

Coach Hardy has experience with leading teens into sports as his son J.J. just completed another successful season at shortstop with the Baltimore Orioles.
