Fall Signing Week '15: Mack Galvin Flies with the Falcons
Share:

When it comes to choosing a college, all students must choose wisely, putting every consideration into one of the most important decisions of their life. This is even truer for a tennis player who has to consider the team he'll be playing and practicing with all the time. That choice becomes even more of a commitment when you choose to attend the United States Air Force Academy. Mack Galvin never took that lightly.

Every cadet who plays on an NCAA Division I sports team at the U.S. Air Force Academy must take physical education in their curriculum and keep in shape to pass a physical fitness test each quarter. He must also play on an intramural team in addition to intercollegiate sports team. That is just the requirement for the school years. Once the degree is finished, there is a minimum five year armed service commitment.

None of this was ever a problem for Mack Galvin.

"I chose to go to the Air Force Academy because I want to serve my country and I get to follow my dream of serving while being able to play tennis," he said proudly.

Galvin is up to the physical challenge too. Even an injury that required a 2014 surgery to repair a meniscus didn't sideline him for very long. He was back in the gym as soon as he was able, getting in shape to get back on the court.

The Arlington Heights teen is ranked No. 2 in the state of Illinois in the juniors, but he's also put a lot of effort into playing high school tennis. He's won the Mid-Suburban League title three times, and was a State Qualifier, and also made third team All-State those years too, while playing for Rolling Meadows High School.

Even though it was always his top choice, Galvin did not decide on the Air Force Academy without looking at other schools, "I was considering Marquette, Davidson, and Michigan State as other options than the Air Force Academy," he said. "I took an unofficial visit to Marquette and both an official and unofficial visit to the Air Force Academy."

The visit to the Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, sealed the deal.
