We talked to some of the top performers:

David Krasner (Staten Island, New York)

David Krasner sported a perfect 13-0 record in the month of October, and won three singles titles along the way.

The 5-foot-11 right-handed four-star player upped his TennisRecruiting.net ranking from No. 164 to 138th in the process. Krasner captured singles titles at the L5 Open at East Setauket and an L4 event at Williamsville, both in his home state of New York. He also won an L5 Open at Quakertown, Pennsylvania.

To what does Krasner owe his recent success?

“I credit my good play to my coach,” said Krasner, whose uncle, Mark Krasner, is his coach. “He added certain aspects to my game that raised my offense and helped me dominate on the court. My work ethic increased, creating results.”

David and Mark are working on David’s agility and movement on the court, along with acceleration and speed.

“I’m an offensive player who likes to close into the net,” Krasner said. “One of my strengths is my serve and my volley game. I grunt very loud and I’m very tough. I train every day, and play every match like it’s my last. I’m focused on sharpening all of my skills.

“I like to keep my diet very strict. I eat very healthy a few days before tournaments so that my body feels energetic. I practice with a lot of intensity so that I can get as much out of every drill.”

Krasner’s dad, Leonard Krasner, started his son in tennis at an early age. The younger Krasner continued training with his uncle. The family, which includes mother, Olga Khitrova, would attend the U.S. Open and he became inspired to play the sport of tennis.

“We credit David’s good play to his hard work, as he strives to get better,” Krasner’s parents said. “He watches a lot of tennis and analyzes the matches very well. David knows that other kids are working hard too, so he tries to fight and grind harder than anyone else. He knows, with the work he is putting in, it will play off if he wants it to.”

Krasner is a senior at CSI High School for International Studies at Staten Island, where he has received honors in math from the school.

“I would like to go to a college to get the experience from it,” Krasner said. “I would like to study business and play for a good tennis team.”
