Countdown: Florida's Burkhardt Chooses Gators
by
Colette Lewis, 6 November 2007
Blue Chip Joey Burkhardt grew up wearing the orange and blue athletic gear of the University of Florida, and there won't be any wardrobe changes for his college years, as the right-hander from St. Augustine has verbally committed to the Gators.
Ranked 13th in the Tennis Recruiting Network's class of 2008, Burkhardt narrowed his choices to two: Florida and
Illinois.
"I decided pretty early on that those were my two favorite schools," says Burkhardt, 17. "I really enjoyed going to both schools; they both had very good facilities and I also liked both campuses. I met with academic advisors and both schools seemed to have a good handle on that. Most aspects of the schools were pretty similar."
"Obviously at Florida, I had outdoors to compare to indoors, but that wasn't too much of a factor, and I liked the guys on both teams."
So what tipped the scales in Florida's favor? Burkhardt mentions a couple of deciding factors.
