Player Advice
Keep An Open Mind When Choosing A Division
Share:

Seven years ago, I wrote a story for Tennis Recruiting on how Eric Butorac went from NCAA Division III tennis to a successful career on the professional circuit as a doubles player. Since that time, Butorac has retired from pro tennis and furthered his career with a job as the Director of Pro Tennis Operations and Player Relations for the USTA.

Butorac, who played for Gustavus Adolphus, is just one example of a success story that didn’t come out of NCAA Division I college tennis.

Too often, prospective student-athletes get hung up on the “No. 1” college division and forget about all the opportunities outside of it. The experience, the degree, and your future occupation is not dependent on the athletic division of the team you join.
