In an effort to speed up the pace of matches, the ITA implemented a few rule changes this year at the Division III National Team Indoor Championships.
Among the tweaks were:
- No warm-up with opponents prior to singles or doubles play.
- Tiebreakers at 7-7 of an 8-game pro set in doubles.
- No lineup announcement prior to the match.
- Once a dual match was clinched, any singles matches extending to a third set played a 10-point super tiebreak in place of a full third set.
Some conferences have employed these format changes throughout the dual-match season while others experienced them only at Indoors.
The men’s Indoors was held in St. Peter, Minnesota Feb. 23-25, and the women played in Chattanooga, Tennessee March 2-4.
Several coaches with teams that participated provided their thoughts on the format alterations.
