SPOTLIGHT ON Riya Soneji (West Jordan, Utah)

Music on your playlist: Before matches, I like to listen to music with a lot of beats that get me pumped up.

Dream vacation destination: I love tropical and kind of exotic places. I would love to go to Costa Rica. That is on my bucket list.

Favorite food: Definitely the sweet pork salad at Cafe Rio

Favorite athletes: Roger Federer just because of how long he’s been in the sport and how composed he is on the court. He’s a great role model.

Future occupation: I want to go into medicine, but I am not exactly sure what field. Probably something along the lines of chemical biology.

If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be: Marie Curie. I love chemistry and she was an exceptional chemist. She is an inspiration in the fact that she broke gender norms in being a great female scientist and she was clearly a genius based on her lifetime’s work. I would love to talk to her more about her life and get tips for mine.

Must-watch TV show: Friends

Favorite movie: Ford v Ferrari. It’s got a really good story and is based on a true story. I actually found a lot to learn from it.

If I am not playing tennis, I am … either studying … or yeah, mostly just studying.
