Olar, a No. 17 seed, defeated his doubles partner, No. 8 Max Exsted (Savage, Minnesota), 6-4, 6-4 in the singles championship. The ninth-seeded tandem beat the fourth-seeded duo of Ronit Karki (East Brunswick, New Jersey) and Aarav Patel (Pittsford, New York) in a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 battle.
“It was very hot and humid, so I had to stay hydrated, which paid off,” said Olar, who won his first national championships. “I had to come up with solutions and adapt to the situation that was presented to me as fast as possible during critical points of each match. I had to fight for every point, as hard as possible, no matter what the score was. I had a ‘never quit and job not finished’ mentality until each match was completed.”
