Knowing how college coaches recruit and what they are looking for can make the process less intimidating for prospects.
Our “Recruiting Insider” series features coaches from across the nation sharing their methods of how they identify, scout and communicate with potential recruits.
Today, we hear from Cincinnati women’s coach Eric Toth:
What are your primary methods of recruiting?
Pretty basic, nothing fancy. My staff and I identify those that we feel can help our program on the surface and kind of go from there. Once our staff gets a feel for who has an interest, we try and get out to watch them compete at an event or watch them at an individual practice. If we like what we see, from there it is all about developing a relationship with the recruit, family, and private coach/recruiting coordinator. Phone calls and texting information out about our school, program and city follow from there. If everything checks out on our end and we feel a recruit we are communicating with is consistent with their communication with our staff and are the type of individual we want in our program, we extend an invitation to visit our campus.
