Chase Robinson thought it would be smart to take a gap year. The Covid pandemic had resulted in less scholarships being available because college players were returning for an extra year of eligibility.

But Robinson’s gap didn’t end up being quite as long. The five-star recruit from Spartanburg, South Carolina signed with Liberty University and arrived in January. He redshirted the spring season, but took advantage of being on campus to make his transition easier.
“I got to be with the team and know how it works,” he said. “I realized with school and practice, it is really a lot. I know now that I have to stay on top of my school work and be efficient with my time. I am feeling pretty confident that I can do that next year without much problem.”
The Liberty coaches initially reached out to Robinson about their interest and started to watch nearly all of his matches. They made a home visit and kept in touch frequently.
Before he made his final decision, Robinson sat down with his dad and made categories of what was important to him and ranked each school he was considering
“It turned out, Liberty checked all the boxes for me,” he said. “I took a lot of things into account - the coaches, the team, the culture, the campus and the values for sure. I like the Christian aspect of Liberty. That was a draw for me and a real positive.”
