Sofia Mavor (WTN: 18.7) decided to visit Army West Point when she was in the area to play a tournament. Although she didn’t consider attending a military academy when she began her recruiting process, the experience sparked her interest.
Four-Star Sofia Mavor Has Committed to Air Force
The more she learned, the more she wanted to go. The four-star senior from Yarmouth, Maine has committed to Air Force.
"Being a part of a service academy, especially Air Force, and representing the values they stand for and the work entailed is something I am excited to be a part of,” Mavor said. “I know it won't always be the easy route, but it's definitely something I am going to benefit from in the long run."
Mavor realizes her commitment goes way beyond the standard commitment of a college athlete. But the basic training, early wake up calls and rigid schedule was intriguing.
"I grew up in a pretty disciplined environment, especially with tennis. It takes a lot of hard work and structure. That is part of the military environment as well,” she said. “I am excited to do it and excited to be challenged even more than usual."
