Coming off a recent suspension by the USTA for a moment of frustration, a determined Daniil Berezin captured his most notable tournament triumph.
Berezin, 14, who has grown up in Florida, capped a seven-victory week with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Tabb Tuck for the USTA Boys 14 National Championships singles title on hard courts at Mobile Tennis Center in Alabama.

Often training at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy in Boca Raton, Berezin has been coping with the recent illness and the June 26th death of his father, former pro hockey player Sergei Berezin, at age 52. The elder Berezin spent most of his National Hockey League career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"This is his first gold ball, his biggest tournament win," said Berezin's mother, Mila, who traveled with him to Alabama. "His dad loved tennis and started training him when he was about 4.
"His dream is to become professional. When he became 13, he realized 'nobody's pushing me, I have to push myself.'"
