Copper Bowl Roundup - The Boys
by Julie Wrege, 15 January 2007
The Copper Bowl is now in its 18th year and is one of the original USTA Level 3 tournaments. And the Copper Bowl truly lived up to the "National" name in 2007 - over a thousand players representing all 17 sections and 44 of the 50 states competed in Tucson.
The tournament is hosted during the week at several Tucson sites, with the main site being the Hilton El Conquistador Resort in Oro Valley, just north of Tucson. The new Director Jason Dickinson says that "one of the beautiful things about Tucson is that everyone opens their courts to this tournament, and many of these sites are very private, exclusive clubs."
The 2007 event saw the founder Don Dickinson still involved behind the scenes, but not much as he has been in previous years. The new Chairman is his son Jason, but one would never have guessed this was a transition year because the tournament ran as smoothly as ever.
