Recruiting Update
Looking Forward: Denis Kudla
by Sonny Dearth, 9 February 2007
Special from the Newport News (Va.) Daily Press

The little blond kid wouldn't look out of place in the next Bad News Bears movie.

Physically, he might remind you of Tanner -- not big-serving Roscoe, but the Little Leaguer with the "Chico Bail's Bonds" ad on his jersey.

But get him on a tennis court, and you can see the genius and savvy possessed by Denis Kudla of Northern Virginia.

Whether it's a flat backhand blast or a nifty topspin lob, a cunning slice or a loop, Kudla has an unusual knack of knowing which shot to hit at what time.

That ability has boosted him to the USTA's No. 1 ranking for 2006 in boys 14-and-under, just ahead of a fellow Mid-Atlantic Section competitor: No. 2 Junior Ore of Gaithersburg, Md.

TennisRecruiting.net lists Kudla as the nation's best player among eighth-graders, the high school class of 2011.
