December Aces
Orange Bowl Champions Highlight December's Top Performances
Share:

The Orange Bowl was the big event of the month, with all 12 champions at last year’s only major ITF junior event in the United States featured below. Ten other juniors and current and former collegians also earned memorable titles as the disjointed 2020 tennis season comes mercifully to a close.

Erika Andreeva

An ace in November for her first ITF World Tennis Tour professional title, the 16-year-old from Russia earned a second title last month, at a $15,000 tournament in Egypt. The unseeded Andreeva, using a junior reserved designation for entry, defeated the No. 6 and No. 4 seeds en route to the final, where she beat No. 2 seed Carolina Alves of Brazil 6-1, 6-3. Andreeva, now up to 791 in the WTA rankings, has gone 29-3 in ITF pro and junior circuit matches since the restart. (Photo credit: Richard van Loon)

Holger Rune

Also an ace in November, the 17-year-old from Denmark won his third career ITF World Tennis Tour professional singles title last month at a $15,000 tournament in Turkey. The 2019 French Open boys champion, seeded No. 7, didn’t drop a game in the final, with qualifier Filip Misolic of Austria retiring trailing 6-0, 4-0. Rune is now up to 473 in the ATP rankings. Oliver Crawford

The 21-year-old University of Florida star won his second ITF World Tennis Tour title, and his first since turning professional this past spring, at the $15,000 tournament in the Dominican Republic. Unseeded, he beat the top three seeds, with a 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 2 seed Alex Rybakov in the final. After reaching the final of a second $15K in the Dominican Republic the following week, Crawford is now up to 613 in the ATP rankings. (Photo credit: Bill Kallenberg)
